Thomas Bristow

Real estate has been a cornerstone of Thomas Bristow’s family for generations, beginning with his grandfather, who was a pioneer in homebuilding. While Thomas initially pursued a different path, he eventually found himself drawn back to the industry that had shaped his family’s legacy. Starting his career in banking, Thomas’s deep understanding of real estate, cultivated through years of family experience, quickly distinguished him in his field.

The decision to leave a secure position at Scotia Bank to pursue a career in real estate marked a pivotal moment for Thomas. He recognized the potential within his family’s successful businesses and was determined not only to contribute but to drive their growth. Residing in Barrie, Thomas sought a balance between professional fulfillment and a lifestyle that allowed him to remain close to his family.

At the heart of Thomas’s approach to business are the principles of integrity and family. Whether leading projects with his uncle or spending time at the family cottage, these values guide his every move. For Thomas, true success lies in expanding the family business into new markets and ventures while upholding the core values that have been instrumental in its enduring success.

“Success isn’t just about building a business; it’s about building on the legacy of integrity and family.” Thomas Bristow

Dino Melchior’s passion for real estate

Dino Melchior

Dino Melchior’s passion for real estate began at a young age. Inspired by his parents, who immigrated to Canada from Italy as young adults in search of a better life. Dino’s parents instilled in him a strong work ethic and encouraged him to dream big. At a young age he would often help his father maintain family-owned properties.

At the age of 19, Dino already had a keen sense of real estate matched with the determination of an entrepreneur, which he demonstrated by using his student loan to purchase his own tri-plex. Two years later, he purchased a four-plex with his friend, Lloyd Bristow.

After graduating university, Dino founded Melchior Management Corporation (MMC) in 1984. Forming his first larger joint venture soon after – a 107-unit apartment building, it was only the beginning of a remarkable portfolio. Over the next 40 years, Dino established partnerships to purchase over 3000 apartment units, and 800,000 sqft of office and retail space. Dino further expanded his expertise into the development of office, apartment and condominium buildings, as well as the development of raw land for a sub-division.

Though Dino lead the way, he acknowledges that it took a hard-working and dedicated team to make his business ventures possible. He feels fortunate that this team included some of his closest family members: his mother, Gemma, his father, Arnaldo, and his brother-in-law, Frank Rinaldi. In fact, Gemma is Dino’s longest standing employee to this day, you can find her at the various properties watering the plants and providing invaluable support.

Dino has always believed in strategic partnerships, which are instrumental for growth. He has been blessed with great partners throughout his investment in Royal LePage franchises within Simcoe County since the 90’s. In 1992, Dino acquired the predecessor company which later became Bayshore Property Management. In 2001, he was joined by his childhood friend, Lloyd Bristow, as a partner at Bayshore. Lloyd took the helm at Bayshore and grew the business to the success it is today.

In Dino’s opinion, essential to a partnership’s enduring progress is strategic growth and planning for the future. Fast forward to 2017 when he hired Thomas Bristow to join him at MMC, and in 2023, Thomas became a 50% partner in MMC and M777 Asset Management. In 2024, Thomas bought out his parents 50% interest in Bayshore to form another partnership with Dino under the “M Group of Companies”.

In 2016, Dino was searching for a better long-term investment strategy for his investors, who are spread amongst approximately 40 partnerships. The best approach was to have his joint and limited partnerships combine their interest into a private REIT. With Thomas Bristow taking the lead on the formation, greatly assisted by the MMC team, they successfully established both M Residential REIT and M Commercial REIT.

Aside from growing the M Group brand, Dino’s personal passions are spending time with family and supporting causes close to his heart through the Melchior Family Foundation. The Foundation has contributed to many organizations, notably the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) which provides health services to the surrounding community including many of M Group’s tenants, condo owners and employees. Dino is also a long-time supporter of The Season’s Center for Grieving Children, Empower Simcoe, Barrie Cares, and the Women and Children’s Shelter, for which M Group is in the process of developing a five-unit building for supportive housing.

As the old saying goes “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”. Dino attributes much of his success to the incredible investor partners who have believed in him over the past 40 years. Their collaboration, guidance, and wealth of knowledge have not only made Dino and M Group a recognizable influence in the real estate industry, but have made his work enjoyable and resulted in many lifelong friendships. For these relationships, Dino is forever grateful and deeply appreciative.

“Our vision for MGroup is not just about growth—it’s about making a lasting impact on the community, ensuring sustainable development, and preserving the legacy of hard work and dedication that began with my family.” — Dino Melchior
